Trail Descriptions
1) Blacktail - Rating (2-5)
This is the North East leg of the Blacktail/WildBill
National OHV Trail. Trails can be rated a 2 if one uses
the go-arounds. Challenge features are available along
the trail that can be rated 3 to 5. This trail offers a 4+
loose rock climb that
will challenge anyone.
The trail ends on top
of the World with
never ending views in
all directions. This is
a good day's ride and
adventure.
2) WildBill - Rating (2-5)
This is the North WEst leg of the Blacktail/WildBill
National OHV Trail. Challenge features are available
along the trail that can be rated 3 to 5. The Big Sky
club put fi rst challenge features on this end of the trail
system. Those who want to watch can use the goarounds.
This trail
is full of rocks
and logs and
perhaps water.
These obstacles
are known for
breaking even the
best of rigs.
3) Upper Dayton - Rating (2-5)
This is the South leg of the Blacktail/WildBill National
OHV Trail. This leg was the fi rst to get challenge
features added by the local clubs. This is the most
popular trail by the Skyliners. There are bypasses on
this trail in case you
lose your nerve. This
trail is full of rocky
obstacles. Watch out
for busted axle Ridge
and Snyder Bridge. Be
prepared to Rock and
Roll all day long. You
will sleep good after
this trail ride.
4) Starvation Meadow - Rating (1.5-2)
This trail is in the Mission Mountains along the East
Shore of Flathead Lake. It is a fairly easy trail, but
scenic. There is a short hill climb in the route. But, most
if not all of it can be done in 2WD. It is rated up to 2
primarily due to a portion being narrow enough that
your rig will be brushed with vegetation. lake views are
breathtaking from start to fi nish. The meadow offers
views into the
Swan Valley.
The end of the
trail looks out
over Yellow
Bay, but keep
your eyes open
on the road.
5) Lower Swayback Trail - Rating (1.5-2)
This trail is in the Mission Mountains just south of the
lake. It is a fairly easy trail, but scenic. It is rated up to
2. The trail climbs
up to about 5,000
ft elevation for a
great view of the
Mission Valley
below. This
will be a short
trip and offer
the possibility
of being back to camp for lunch, thereby giving you
the opportunity to enjoy other lake activities in the
afternoon.
6) Angus Trail - Rating (2-3)
This trail is along the River. It can be an easy trail, with
hills and one section
with an optional
challenge. It is scenic
and there will be
stops to enjoy the
river. This trail runs
along the Flathead
River and looks out
over rapids and the
winding river below.
The winding trail takes you to an old homestead and
ends with a long hill climb, ending in panoramic views.
7) Rattlesnake Draw - Rating (1.5-2)
This trail is along in the mountains West of the River. It is an easy trail. This
trail also will brush your rig with
stiff vegetation. It is a scenic ride
and a short hike to the Fire Lookout.
Dropping down from the lookout
tower is a thrill hugging the steep
slopes to an abandoned ranch.
8) High Voltage - Rating (1.5-2)
This is another easy, scenic trail onthe
Reservation. It is close in our own back
yard, which the local clubs always enjoys.
This trail looks across the lake and over to
the Mission Range, Swan Range, Glacier,
and Whitefish range. Hope for a clear, sunny
day.
9) Bison Range - Rating (1.0)
This is a ride to the National Bison Range. There is an entrance fee unless
you have a National Parks pass. This is
an easy ride that can be done by any car.
You will enjoy watching the Bison, Deer,
Antelope, and countless wildlife. Bring
your camera for this one.
10) Glacier Park - Going to the Sun - Rating (1.0)
This is a popular tourist attraction. An
National Park entrance fee applies. It is a
paved road for any car access. There are
length limits however. It is a great ride in an
open top vehicle (no dusty roads). You will
enjoy a short stroll through the Trail of the
Cedars and visit Apgar Village where you
can get your Glacier souvenirs.
11) WhiteWater Rafting - Not a trail,
but you can choose to take a day and go on a White Water Raft trip with some
friends. Tickets are available from the Flathead Raft Company in Polson

12) Lake Cruise - Another non trail,
but you can choose to take a day for a Lake Cruise. Tickets are available
fromKwaTaqNuk in Polson. (406) 883-3636
Trail Level Rating
Difficulty 1: Passable by stock and 2WD vehicles, improved
dirt, gravel etc.
Difficulty 2: Scenic, touring trail ride; four wheel drive
required occasionally, some mud holes or rocks that would stop
most other vehicles are traveled easily in 4WD.
Difficulty 3: For novice and experienced drivers alike; the
most fun four wheeling you can expect to have in a stock four
wheeler; low range may be required often; vehicle damage is a
possibility.
Difficulty 4: Not advisable for novice drivers; potentially
dangerous situations; maximum ground clearance, low- est gears,
and minimum tire size of 33 inches required; lockers, limited slips,
winches, and jacks advised due to moderate to large rocks and
obstacles, vehicle damage is likely. Full size vehicles limited to
specific trails at this rating.
Difficulty 4+: Not advisable for novice drivers; potentially
dangerous situations; maximum ground clearance, lowest gears,
and minimum tire size of 33 inches and one locker or two limited
slips required; jacks and winches indispensable due to large boulders,
steep inclines; vehicle damage is very likely. Full size vehicles
limited to specific trails at this rating.
Difficulty 5: No novice drivers; dangerous situations;
maximum ground clearance, lowest gears, minimum tire size of 35
inches and two lockers or limited slips required; jacks and winches
indispensable due to large boulders, steep inclines; vehicle damage
assured. Full size vehicles limited to specific trails at this rating.
Difficulty 5+: For the hard core experienced driver; extremely
dangerous situations; maximum ground clearance, lowest
gears, minimum tire size of 35 inches, two lockers, and winch are
required. Full size vehicles limited to specific trails at this rating.
